Deaths

Burkhead, Drew R., age 36, July 3. Pastor Titus Martin led the memorial service at College Hill RP Church. Drew was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and was currently in the Army Reserve. A graduate of Geneva College, he was enrolled in graduate school in Colorado and owned a web development business. Drew was a member of Faith Evangelical Free Church in Fort Collins, Colo. He is survived by his mother, Ann E. Burkhead; brothers Casey (Kathleen) Burkhead and Benjamin (Jennifer) Burkhead; two nephews and a niece. (College Hill [Beaver Falls, Pa.] RPC)

Clarke, Agnes Thorburn, age 88, Sept. 30. Dr. John White officiated at the memorial service at College Hill RP Church. Agnes, a lifelong member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, was the wife of the late Dr. Edwin C. Clarke, president of Geneva College. A loyal supporter of Geneva College, she was also an active volunteer throughout her life, working with the auxiliary to the Heritage Valley Beaver Hospital and the Salvation Army. She is survived by daughter Caroline Wilson Kupperman (Christopher); son Robert Thorburn Clarke (MaryLynn); granddaughters Shawn Brower (Shawn Michael), Margo Towne (Jack) and Lindsay Koenig (Ryan); six great-grandchildren and two sisters. McCrory, Robert, age 94, Oct. 16. Pastor Robert McFarland officiated at the funeral at Sterling RP Church. Robert McCrory was a lifelong resident of Sterling and an elder in the RP Church. He is survived by sons Jim, Philip, and Don; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. (Sterling, Kan., RPC)

Pinkerton, Dr. John E., age 70, May 6. Pastor Titus Martin and Dr. John White officiated at the memorial service held at College Hill RP Church. Dr. Pinkerton earned his bachelor’s degree in physics from Geneva College, his master’s degree in electrical engineering from the Univ. of Wisconsin and his doctorate in physics from the Univ. of South Carolina. Shortly thereafter he took a job at Geneva College where he taught physics and electrical engineering until his death. He won a number of awards for his teaching and research and was instrumental in developing Geneva’s Center for Technology Development. Dr. Pinkerton was a lifelong member of the RP Church and served as a deacon for many years in the College Hill RPC. He is survived by his grandchildren, Samantha and Sabrina Mickle and Jessica Hines; his fiancée, Diane Lamont; a foster son Gary (Janet) Star; two brothers James (Judy) and Robert (Belinda) Pinkerton and a number of nieces and nephews. Reed, Margaret, age 90, Apr. 25. Pastor Robert McFarland officiated at the memorial service at Sterling RP Church. Long-time resident of Sterling and member of the RPCNA, Margaret is survived by her husband, Maurice; son Don; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. (Sterling, Kan., RPC).

Russell, Dr. William H., age 85, May 6. Dr. Richard Gamble officiated at the memorial service at College Hill RP Church. Dr. Russell served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Univ. of Chicago and his Ph.D. from the Univ. of Wisconsin. He then came to teach history at Geneva College in 1954 and became dean of the college in 1963. After his retirement in 1985, he taught church history at the RP Seminary for 10 years. He was an active member and served 40 years as an elder in the College Hill RPC and as clerk of session. He is survived by his wife, Martha; son Dr. Dale Russell; and daughter Dr. Mary Louise Pearth (George). (College Hill [Beaver Falls, Pa.] RPC)

Warden, Dr. James E., age 85, Nov. 13. Pastor Titus Martin led the memorial service at College Hill RP Church. Dr. Warden was a United States Navy veteran who served during World War II. He graduated from the Univ. of Pittsburgh in 1949, Faith Seminary in 1952, and received his master’s degree from Temple Univ. in 1954. In 1973 he obtained his doctor of education degree from the Univ. of Pittsburgh. A member and deacon in the College Hill RPC, he taught as professor of education at Geneva College before his retirement in 1992. Dr. Warden was always interested in Christian education and served as a founding board member of the Beaver County Christian School. He is survived by his wife, Jane; sons James (Janis), David, Steven, Mark (Diana) and daughter Patricia (David) Iriana; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. (College Hill [Beaver Falls, Pa.] RPC)
