Cheri McChesney’s desire to major in chemical engineering was cemented when she won first place in an exam hosted by Westinghouse Electric Company. This spring, Cheri attended a series of lectures at Westinghouse for high school juniors in western Pennsylvania who are interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields. The lectures were given by experts in their respective fields and included topics such as nuclear science, industrial engineering, and laser technologies. Cheri says, “The lectures were a great way to learn about a variety of available careers, the ongoing research and the things our God has made, from trillions of stars to the enormous amounts of energy contained in a single uranium atom.”

The congregation hosted a chamber music program for the community on Apr. 4. This classical music performance was initiated by Megan Emigh of the Elkins Park, Pa., RPC. Megan is an internationally acclaimed flute soloist and is the principal flute of the Symphony in C in New Jersey. During a prior visit to Ridgefield Park, Megan considered the church’s setting and acoustics  favorable for chamber music events. Megan recruited fellow musicians, Netenel Draiblate on violin  and Yoni Draiblate on cello, to complete the ensemble. Featured selections included works by J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart and Maurice Ravel. Although the concert was free to the public, donations were accepted to help defray the musicians’ expenses.
