New cd: Defender

With the release of Rosaria Butterfield’s new book, Openness Unhindered, in July, the number of orders going out the front door sometimes exceeds 100 per day. Some of these orders are for bookstores that want as many as 500 books.

At the same time, Crown & Covenant Publications’ editorial team and freelancers continue working on new projects to serve the church.

A New CD: Defender

The newest recording of selections from The Book of Psalms for Worship focuses on God as our Defender. Psalms like 7 and 109 plead for help from our almighty God and trust Him to render justice, including judgment against those who assail His people.

At a time when God’s church is being persecuted all over the world, sometimes in ways that strike us with unspeakable grief, these psalms give us words to call on God.

Thoughtfully sung by Pastor Tim McCracken, his wife, Lori, and their daughter, Kaylee Parish, these selections bring Christians to needful worship in the face of persecution and trials. As James E. Adams said, “We must be candid enough to acknowledge that to pray for the extension of God’s kingdom is to solicit the destruction of all other kingdoms.” Some of these psalms help us to humbly do that.

Crown & Covenant’s goal is to record every psalm selection in The Book of Psalms for Worship so that churches have a full library as a resource and an aid in learning new tunes. Defender is the 11th CD in the series.

Also in the works is a new psalms recording for children, sung by children. The proposed recording focuses on “I Am” statements that highlight Jesus in the Psalter.

Words-Only Psalter

Do you sometimes remember the tune but not the words? This happens!

Crown & Covenant Publications is getting ready to print a small-sized words-only psalter with a soft cover.

Styled like a crafted book of poetry (see illustration above), the selections include the scriptural inscriptions to psalms. This volume is designed for devotional use and travel, as well as singing.

The words-only edition’s release is planned for November.

Psalter.org

Did you know that the Education & Publication Board, served by the staff at Crown & Covenant Publications, manages some denominational web sites? These include ReformedPresbyterian.org and ReformedVoice.org.

Together with a team of freelancers, the staff has been hard at work to offer new features that serve the RPCNA and the church at large, like those on psalter.org.

Whether you relish the style of the “red psalter,” enjoy new tunes in the “blue psalter,” or find joy examining the ARP Psalter or Trinity Psalter that serve our fraternal Reformed churches, you’ll find something for you.

Each of the four psalters is easy to sort by tune, composer, meter, and more. You can play a midi file of any tune from any of the four psalters—no pitch pipe, piano, or perfect pitch needed. The newest feature added to psalter.org is for The Book of Psalms for Singing and The Book of Psalms for Worship only. These two psalters are now fully searchable.

This feature is becoming a favorite, as it is a virtual concordance. You can track down the psalm containing the pesky phrase you’ve been looking for all day. Or you can search topics to touch on the themes your small group or Sabbath school has been studying. Searching for composers or keys may help you discover singable selections that help you to worship with heart and voice.
