Pastor J. D. Edgar started having Bible classes in his living room and garage on Sept. 2, 1951. Ten people attended in the beginning, but the group quickly grew. In November of that same year, they started the search for a place to build a church. They found a site in March 1952, and the new building was dedicated on May 17, 1953. Since the time of its organization, San Diego, Calif., RPC has had a total of 10 pastors. Our two longest-serving pastors were Don Weilersbacher and Mark England, and each served for 17 years. Pastor England retired in 2020.

Our congregation tragically lost Pastor Noah Shepherd almost three years ago, and the pastoral search committee has diligently sought the man that will ultimately pastor this flock ever since. As a result of our search for a pastor, we have become more familiar with the seminaries, their students, military chaplains, and retired pastors who have assisted to deliver sermons and encourage us. Currently, Eduardo Fricovsky serves as ruling elder, Jon Maginn as provisional elder, and Manabu Torii as deacon.

Current activities of the congregation include Sunday Bible classes for adults and children and worship on Sunday morning. We have prayer meeting on Sunday evenings and fellowship lunch after church service on the first Sunday of the month. Sermons are broadcast via Facebook, which is a great blessing to those who are unable to physically attend and as an outreach to those led by the Holy Spirit to find us. San Diego has much to offer; we are close to several universities, beautiful beaches, mountains, and Mexico. We hope you will visit!

San Diego RPC is home to an eclectic bunch—ethnically diverse, including old and young souls, single and married, new members and adherents, along with frequent visitors. Despite our small size, this congregation has been able to achieve a lot of things by the members working together. The church has been able to do a large amount of mercy work—giving help to all in need.

Please pray for us, that God will provide the San Diego church a teaching elder and that God would provide the church with more ruling elders and deacons.
