RP Seminary Receives $1.2 Million Gift; Bilingual Doctorate of Ministry Degree Being Considered

RP Seminary Receives $1.2 Million Gift

The Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, Pa., received the largest commitment of support in its history in response to development efforts with its bicentennial campaign, From Strength to Strength. A married couple from the Midwest has pledged to fill the lead gift of $1.2 million over 10 years with monthly checks of $10,000 beginning immediately.

The Seminary’s goal is to raise $6.4 million for the campaign.

Bilingual Doctorate of Ministry Degree Being Considered

The Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary (RPTS) in Pittsburgh, Pa., has been urged by Christian leaders in Korea to begin offering a Doctorate of Ministry (D.Min.) degree in response to the hiring of Dr. Richard Gamble as RPTS professor. The seminary’s administration is now exploring the feasibility of offering such a program, which would also include English- speaking students.

Dr. Gamble’s longtime friendship with Dr. Jae Sung Kim, general secretary of the Korean Evangelical Society and former professor and academic dean of Hap Dong Seminary in Seoul, Korea, spurred the exploration of a D.Min. program at RPTS. Dr. Kim would likely become an adjunct professor to assist with coordinating curriculum and teaching classes for the program.

While the D.Min. would largely accommodate the demand of Korean Christian leaders for their developing theology students and pastors, RPTS President Dr. Jerry O’Neill says he would also want to make the degree easily available to English-speaking students.

Those who would like to express interest should contact Dr. O’Neill at 412-731- 8690. Korean-only speakers should call Young-Rak Jung at 412-780-9108.
