The Reformed Presbyterian Home held an open house in June in honor of its 125th anniversary. The Founder’s Day gathering featured singing, reminiscing, and proclamations.

Friends of the Home were treated to three floors of varying activities for young and old. The chapel housed most events, with multiple guests providing musical entertainment throughout the day.

Reformed Presbyterian Woman’s Association (RPWA) board members were also present to greet visitors and answer questions about the RP Home. “The Lord provided a picture-perfect day for the open house,” said Louise Copeland, RPWA board vice president. “The artists, staff, and board members worked very hard to make the day memorable. What a special way to celebrate so many years of faithful service!”

Individual singers, duets, and choirs played instruments and sang psalms and hymns to the delight of residents and visitors. Performers included Mindy Cable, Ed Verbeke, Nancy Smith, Louise Copeland, Sean and Katie Donaldson, Raymont Conner, Bill Holt, and Beverly Taylor, as well as members and friends from Hope Community (Beaver Falls, Pa.) RPC and North Hills (Pittsburgh, Pa.) RPC.

The library was adorned with photographs from the history of the Home. A large monitor displayed a video of the Home’s history created by Gold Spire Creative, a student-run media club from Geneva College.

Children enjoyed cookies, crafts, and face painting, provided by Home care staff members. A local artist provided visitors with balloon animals and objects of different sizes and colors.

Local dignitaries also contributed to the festivities. Allegheny County council representative Olivia Bennett presented a proclamation on behalf of Allegheny County. Faith Martin, retired RP Home executive director, presented a celebration proclamation provided by the City of Pittsburgh.

A ceremonial cake was cut and served to guests after the reading of the proclamations. The Home kitchen staff members provided hot and cold appetizers, fresh fruit, and beverages throughout the day.

Visitors were able to take personalized tours of the facility and discuss the benefits of living at the Home with residents and staff.

“It was a privilege to acknowledge the Lord’s blessings over the last 125 years with so many people,” said Marilyn Roll, RPWA board president.
