In Memoriam: Edward Leonard Roby

1916-2015

Edward Leonard Roby, age 98, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 2, 2015. Edward was born in Hetherton, Montmorency County, Mich., on Aug. 19, 1916. He spent his youth in Ferndale, Mich. After graduating from high school, he was drafted into the Army and served in WWII from 1941-45. He married Shirley May Westmore on Aug. 10, 1940, in Ferndale. He and Shirley moved to Hetherton in 1945. Starting in 1950, Edward owned and operated Roby’s Wood Products for about 30 years.

For many years, he and his wife wintered in Gulf Shores, Ala., and worshiped at the Multiracial RP Church in Pensacola, Fla. Edward served Hetherton RPC in various capacities. He was chairman of the congregation for many years, was an elder for 44 years, taught Sabbath school classes, and led the young people’s group for a time with Shirley.

Edward was preceded in death by his wife of almost 70 years. Survivors include his son, Ron, of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; daughter, Terry Truitt, of Jonesville, Mich.; 2 grandsons; 5 great-grandchildren; and a cousin, Florence Fattal, of the RP Home in Pittsburgh, Pa.
