Agreeing with the Reviewer

In regard to the parenting methods espoused by Tedd Tripp in his book, Shepherding a Child’s Heart, (see review, “Should You Focus on Your Child’s Heart?” Dec. Witness), I did try those methods on our children for a time a few years ago. I found that trying to address every sin by digging deep into the consciences of our children was exasperating for child and parent. In fact, one child became quite angry as I tried to bring him to the cross of Christ with each sin, so I did not think this approach was helpful. We now just let the Bible speak on its own to our children. My husband and I explain Scripture passages and catechism to them, talk to them about sermons occasionally, pray with them, and love them (and correct and discipline them too). This is very similar to my upbringing in a covenant home, and it seems that our children are thriving.
