Jessica Porter received the American FFA degree at the 73rd National FFA Convention in Louisville, Ky. in October. This is the highest degree the Future Farmers of America bestows upon its members.

Heather Braum, a senior at Holton High School, was among the Kansas Honor Scholars named at a dinner and ceremony held in February sponsored by the University of Kansas Alumni association. The top ten percent of students from eight schools were honored.

Recipients of the Maryalice Braum College Scholarships for 2000-2001 are: Rebecca I-lamer, Jessica Porter, Andrew Scoby, Jacque Scohy, and Tony Van Horn.

The third annual Christmas dinner held on Dec. 23 was enjoyed by a good crowd. Cindy Hindman, Barbara Harman, and Ellen Blackwood coordinated the meal, which was served by the college and high school youth. The festive atmosphere was enhanced by decorations done by Lisa Haverkamp and Eleanor Phillips. The four youngest Sabbath school classes presented a short program.

A family night shower was held on Feb. 17 honoring Bryan and Stacie Caskey, who recently moved to Denison from Lawrence. Hostesses were Kathleen Blackwood, Cindy Hindman, Karen McCrory, and Phyllis Phillips.

The annual congregational meeting was held on Feb. 22 after being postponed because of an ice storm that brought the northeast quarter of Kansas to a standstill 2 weeks earlier. Rodger Phillips was reelected chairman and Cindy Hindman was elected secretary of the congregation. Yvonne Hamer is the Sabbath school superintendent with Anne Hindman as her assistant. Mitzie Van Horn is continuing as Junior superintendent.
