Memorize: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” —Deut. 6:5

Dear Detective in Training,

Detectives Kate and Jocelyn have told me about all the cases you have solved. Wonderful job! In your last case, you discovered that Jesus, our Savior, makes us able to go to heaven. We know we are going to heaven if we believe in Him.

I have a difficult case for you today. In the Bible, I read that God wants me to love Him with all my heart and all my soul and all my strength. I know what my heart is, and I know what my strength is. But what is my soul?

Crack case #6 by using your tool, finding evidence, and asking questions to solve the problem, WHAT IS MY SOUL? We look forward to hearing what you found out!

Keep sleuthing, Special Investigator Becca

Crack the Case

Ask Questions

  1. The Bible sometimes uses the word “spirit” instead of the word “soul.” Who did God give a soul to? (Read Genesis 2:7)
  2. Are the body and the soul the same, or different? (Read Matthew 10:26-31)

Find Evidence

  1. We can’t see souls, so some people don’t think souls are real. But can we see the wind? Can we see people’s personalities?

Use Your Tool

  • The Bible is a great tool! Read Job 32:8 and Psalm 116:7-9 to find out more about our souls and what can happen to them if we follow Jesus.

Activity

Straw Flutes

In Psalms 42 and 63, the singer says his soul is thirsty for God. When I’m thirsty, I can slurp lemonade up a straw. When I’m thirsty for God, I can make music. This craft lets me do both.

You will need:

  • 5-9 straws
  • tape
  • scissors

Directions: 1. Cut the straws. Leave the first straw the full length. Cut 1 inch off the second straw, then 2 inches off the third straw, and so on. 2. Put down a long piece of tape, sticky-side up. On top of the tape, line all the straws so the tops are even. 3. Fold the tape over to wrap the straws together. 4. Play your flute by blowing in it!
