RP Witness Detective Club: Is God Near to Me?

A page for kids

Memorize: “But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.”—Psalm 73:28

Dear Detective in Training,

Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into our last case—figuring out why I don’t always get what I pray for. We learned that God always answers our prayers and always hears us! Sometimes He doesn’t give us what we want right away because He has an even better plan for the world and for our lives. We can always trust that God our Father will provide for us.

Since you are doing so well with these cases, we decided to give you another one! We hope you are ready. Good detectives persevere, which means they keep trying even when the cases are hard or there are a lot of them.

Here is your new case: Sometimes, when it is dark outside or when I am all alone, I feel scared. I know that God answers prayer, but is God near to me? Where is God when I feel alone? What does our tool, the Bible, say about where God is?

For Case #3 use your tool, ask questions, and look for evidence to find out, IS GOD NEAR TO ME?

Keep sleuthing,

Detectives Kate and Jocelyn

Crack the Case

Ask Questions

  1. What does the Bible say?

  2. Where is God?

  3. What do your parents do when they are afraid?

Find Evidence

  1. Can we see God? (See Exodus 33:18-20)

We know the Bible is a great tool! Use these verses to help find the answer to case #3.

A. Psalm 139:7-12 B. Isaiah 41:10, 13 C. Joshua 1:9 D. 1 Corinthians 3:16

Activity

Create this pair of binoculars to help you see the world around you and find clues. Here is what you will need:

  • Scissors
  • Yarn
  • Markers
  • Glue
  • 2 cardboard tubes (or toilet paper rolls)

Directions:

  1. Color the tubes with markers.
  2. Glue the two tubes together.
  3. Hold them together for 30 seconds and then set them aside to let the glue dry.
  4. Cut a piece of yarn long enough to hang around your neck like a necklace.
  5. Glue or tape the yarn from one tube to another to wear your binoculars around your neck!
