Memory verse: All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correciton, and for training in righteousness. (2 Tim. 3:16)
Dear Detective in Training,
We need your help! We need more detectives like you who are willing to take on cases and find answers. But first, let us introduce ourselves. We are Detectives Kate and Jocelyn. We are going to help you find answers to some big questions we have.
We hope you will all become good detectives. As you might know, good detectives find answers. There are three different ways they find answers:
The first thing they do is ask good questions. Often their questions begin with who, what, when, where, why and how. Sometimes when detectives find an answer it makes them ask even more questions.
Second, they collect evidence. Evidence is something that gives proof and a reason to believe. Evidence or clues are often facts and information that detectives find from using tools.
Tools are the third way detectives find answers. Some tools detectives may use are books, notes, and magnifying glasses.
Your first case as Detectives in Training is to find out why we believe our favorite tool, the Bible, is true. So the first question you will be answering is HOW DO WE KNOW WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS IS TRUE? Don’t forget that good detectives ask more questions, look for clues, and use tools.
Keep sleuthing,
Detectives Jocelyn and Kate
Crack the Case!
Ask Questions:
What does the Bible say about itself? Try looking up 2 Timothy 3:16, Deuteronomy 12:32, and Hebrews 4:12.
How many different authors does the Bible have? Try looking in your study Bible, asking your pastor, or asking your parents to help you find answers on the internet.
Find Evidence:
- Did the prophecies (or events told about before they happened) come true? Try looking up Isaiah 7:14 and Matthew 1:22-23 together and Isaiah 53:12 and Matthew 27:38. Then see if you can find any others.
Can you solve our first case? Write back to the Witness and tell us what you found out!
