Late summer and fall brought an abundance of opportunities for fun and fellowship for the RP Home residents, family, employees, and friends. Though June was indeed soggy, and August hot and dry, the weather did not stop our community from enjoying great times together. The Activities and Food and Nutrition Departments took us outside on the deck and into the courtyard garden for picnics, lemonade and conversation, ice cream socials, concerts, intergenerational song and play fests, games, and sing-alongs. Many of our residents were out and about at a Pirates baseball game, symphony concerts, riverboat rides, the Pittsburgh Zoo, and lunches at local restaurants.

The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God. They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green.” —Psalm 92:12-14

We were blessed to have the 10th annual Walker Country Fair on Sept. 14, thanks to the generosity of Frank and Olive Walker. Each year, both young and old eagerly await cotton candy, ice cream, corn dogs, popcorn, and other fair food as well as face painting, crafts, games, magic shows, and the petting zoo, which this year surprised us with the addition of a baby zebra and camel!

When it was too hot or rainy, we kept the fun going inside with painting classes, drive-in movies, culture studies and a marvelous variety show performed by the Speez-Acts, a local husband and wife team who wowed the audience with their theatrics and gymnastics. There were a lot of smiling faces for the rest of that afternoon.

An active cadre of volunteers graciously supports our efforts to engage everyone in our community, whether it be through worship, through prayer, or through play. We are thankful for their continued commitment to the well being of our residents. And we certainly are thankful to the Lord for bringing us together as only He can do—a loving, caring community with much to offer one another.
