“When you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you” (Matthew 6:2-4, NIV).
We do good things because it is right, it pleases God and it makes others happy. Did you know that it is possible to do a good thing in a bad way? Sometimes people do good things just to impress others. Look at the hypocrites in Matthew 6:2. Doing good to show off is not what God wants. It’s OK if someone finds out, but remember that it’s important to help others without caring if they notice. God always knows when you help! Can you think of some ways to do good secretly?
