Rose Point (New Castle, Pa.) RPC

Charles Brown, pastor

The congregation hosted a Festival of Praise Oct. 30. Approximately 85 adults and children sang 17 psalms from the Book of Psalms for Worship on the theme “Songs of the Covenant.” Refreshments were served following the singing.

The fall meeting of the Presbytery of the Alleghenies met in the Rose Point church Nov. 11-12. Pastor Brown brought the devotions at the opening session of the meeting. Pastor Ralph Joseph served as clerk and Pastor Brown as assistant clerk.

Death has visited two families in the congregation lately. Although neither of those who passed away were members of the congregation, family members are. Dawn (Ralph) McKelvy’s father, Floyd Newingham, passed away in early November, and Jessie Mae McFarland’s husband, Kenneth, died at the end of October.

Geneva College

American Political Commentator Fred Barnes Speaks at Geneva College

Fred Barnes, American political commentator and executive editor of The Weekly Standard, visited Geneva College Nov. 17–18 as part of the Geneva Visiting Lecturer and Artist Series.

Mr. Barnes discussed the latest developments in Washington politics and the 2012 presidential race. He also shared his perspective on how Christians should look at politics. Both talks were free and open to the public.

Barnes has made many appearances on the Fox News Channel program Special Report with Bret Baier and was co-host of the Fox show The Beltway Boys. Barnes served for 10 years as a White House correspondent for The New Republic  and has received numerous accolades for the humor and quick wit of his political columns and other writings. He received the highest rating of four stars from The Media Guide. Barnes recently wrote Rebel-in-Chief: Inside the Bold and Controversial Presidency of George W. Bush, published by Crown Forum. He is also a member of the board of the Institute on Religion and Democracy.

Quinter, Kan., RPC

Steven Work, pastor

The elders, deacons and their spouses gathered in Hays, Kan., for an annual restaurant meal and planning time for the 2011 activities of Quinter RPC. Elder Joe Copeland and his wife, Edie, joined them for the occasion. After eating together they met at the Good Samaritan Center in Hays, Kan., where the Copelands reside. During the winter there was a prayer meeting once a month in Hays to have fellowship with the Copelands, Carol Hoppes, and Shirley Roberts, who cannot travel the 52 miles to the midweek prayer meeting in Quinter. The small group enjoyed praise and prayer led by elder Fred Irwin. —Fran Mann, correspondent

Topeka, Kan., RPC

Brad Johnston, pastor

The congregation had a very active year in 2010. In July they welcomed a new pastor, Brad Johnston, and family (wife Sue, children Marta, Nick, Peter and Anna) from Walton, N.Y. They are thankful to have a pastor after nearly three years without. This year they celebrated the 120-year anniversary of their founding.

Forty-two members attended conferences this summmer, including the Iowa Family Conference and Horn Creek Conference. Four couples (Larry and Karen Copeland, Phil and Eleanor Duguid, Bob and Georgia McFarland, and Jonathan and Adrienne Haney) attended the RP International Conference in Scotland in July.

Two members went home to be with the Lord: Marjorie Curry Yates and Bob Sage. The congregation rejoices in new families attending and the new children recently born. Often there are more than 30 children during times of worship.
